Mercado de Feria

Mercado de Feria in Seville's Macarena quarter is the city's oldest municipal market still trading, documented from 1719, with a 1925 hall by Juan Talavera and a tapas area.

About Mercado de Feria

Mercado de Feria began in 1719, when the council set up a pavilion for bread and meat on land given by the Marquise of La Algaba, beside the church of Omnium Sanctorum. Balbino Marrón designed the first covered building in 1863, and Juan Talavera y Heredia completed the present structure in 1925. Restored in 1984, it reopened in October 2026 after a council renovation of close to €1 million that renewed roofs, skylight and paving and added accessible toilets.

Two pavilions meet around an open central space. Traditional stalls sell fish and shellfish, meat, fruit and vegetables, chacinas and flowers, with cafés and a few gourmet shops. At the centre, Lonja de Feria groups several bars around shared tables for beer, wine and tapas.

The food stalls trade Monday to Saturday mornings, roughly 08:00–15:00. The Lonja de Feria bars open Tuesday and Wednesday 12:30–18:00, Thursday to Saturday 13:00–midnight and Sunday 13:00–18:00. It is a 20-minute walk north of the cathedral; parking nearby is scarce. It suits food lovers after a local market and cooks with a holiday kitchen.

Thursday is the best day: the El Jueves street market, held on Calle Feria since the 13th century, fills the pavements with antiques and second-hand goods. See the stalls between 09:00 and 13:00, then stay for lunch at the bars. Bring cash for small stalls.
