Metropol Parasol (Setas de Sevilla)

Metropol Parasol, known locally as Las Setas, is a 150-by-70-metre timber canopy up to 26 metres high over Plaza de la Encarnación, with a rooftop walkway above Seville's old town.

About Metropol Parasol (Setas de Sevilla)

Metropol Parasol covers Plaza de la Encarnación, 900 m north of the cathedral. Jürgen Mayer's design won a competition of 65 entries and was completed in 2011 after long delays. Some 3,500 cubic metres of laminated Finnish pine form a canopy about 150 by 70 metres and up to 26 metres high, billed as the world's largest wooden structure. Locals call it Las Setas.

Lifts rise to a walkway that winds over the parasols to a 360-degree viewpoint over rooftops and the Giralda. The ticket includes the short film Feeling Sevilla and, from April to October, the Aurora light show from 21:30. Below are the Encarnación market and the Antiquarium, where Roman houses with mosaics and Almohad remains found on the site are shown.

Tickets start at €16 online or at the ticket office below the plaza, and from €48 with a flamenco show. The Antiquarium has its own entrance and is included in the Royal Alcázar general ticket. Allow 60 to 90 minutes. Lifts make the walkway accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and children enjoy the height, though small ones should stay close by the rails.

Sunset is the busiest time; for fewer people, go soon after the 09:30 opening. In July and August the deck holds the heat, so avoid midday. It is open daily until 01:00, with last entry at 00:15.
