Seville Cathedral and the Giralda

Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, its Gothic body alone 126 metres long, holding the tomb of Columbus beneath the 104.5-metre Giralda bell tower.

About Seville Cathedral and the Giralda

Seville Cathedral fills a city block on Avenida de la Constitución. Built from the early 15th century on the site of the Almohad Great Mosque, on completion it overtook Hagia Sophia as the world's largest cathedral. The Gothic body is 126 metres long with a nave 36 metres high, and the former minaret, the Giralda, rises 104.5 metres. UNESCO listed it in 1987.

Inside are the gilded altarpiece of the Capilla Mayor, the choir, the Royal Chapel with the tomb of Ferdinand III, the tomb of Christopher Columbus borne by four figures of Spain's kingdoms, and paintings by Murillo and Zurbarán. Ramps, not stairs, climb the Giralda to the bell chamber, and the visit ends in the Patio de los Naranjos.

Tickets cost €13 online or €14 at the office (reduced €7–8; under-14s free) and include the Church of El Salvador. Entry is by timed slot, so book online. Free visits run on Sundays from 17:00, with tickets issued in person at the Puerta del Príncipe. Allow about 75 minutes; audio guides cost €5. The nave is step-free, but the Giralda is unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Hours are 10:45–18:00 Monday to Saturday and 14:30–19:00 on Sunday, subject to services. Take an early slot to climb the Giralda before the crowds and heat. Cover shoulders and avoid beachwear. Guided tours of the roofs or stained glass cost €20.
