Bodeguita Romero
Family tapas bar in El Arenal whose story began in 1939 in the Encarnación market and moved to Calle Harinas in 1977, famous for its pringá montadito and papas aliñás.
About Bodeguita Romero
Antonio Romero Hijón and his wife Petra Marín opened a small bar in the old Encarnación market in 1939, then moved to Calle General Polavieja, where their son Pedro started work at 12. In April 1977 the family opened the present Bodeguita in a corner house on Calle Harinas. Pedro and his wife Ángeles ran it for decades; their son Alejandro now leads it, adding a longer sherry list and daily fish specials. A small shrine remembers Kike, the old bar's pet partridge.
The montadito de pringá is the dish: meats from the cocido stew (pork, chorizo and morcilla) pulled apart rather than mashed and packed into a hot toasted roll. Papas aliñás, potatoes dressed with oil, vinegar, onion and parsley, are the other classic. The kitchen also serves carrillada (pork cheek), rabo de toro (oxtail), espinacas con garbanzos and menudo (tripe). Drink a dry manzanilla.
In autumn 2026 it opens Tuesday to Saturday 13:00–17:00, plus Thursday and Friday 20:00–23:45; closed Sundays, Mondays and late July to late August. Tapas cost about €3–5.50 (2026); most people spend €15–25. No bookings: order at the horseshoe bar or wait for a table. It is 300 m from the cathedral and the bullring.
Arrive 10–15 minutes before the doors open at 13:00 or 20:00; by 14:00 there can be a queue outside. Midweek lunches are calmer than Thursday and Friday nights, and the cocido is at its best in the cooler months. Order one pringá each: they do not share well.
