Palacio de las Dueñas

Palacio de las Dueñas is the Seville palace of the House of Alba, a late-15th-century blend of Gothic, Mudéjar and Renaissance styles where the poet Antonio Machado was born in 1875.

About Palacio de las Dueñas

Palacio de las Dueñas stands on Calle Dueñas, 300 m north-east of the Metropol Parasol. It was built in the late 15th century in Renaissance style with Gothic and Mudéjar touches, and belongs to the House of Alba. The poet Antonio Machado was born here in 1875, and the 18th Duchess of Alba married here in 2011. A national monument since 1931, it opened to visitors in 2016.

The route runs from the front garden to the main courtyard, with Gothic-Mudéjar arcades, plasterwork and a fountain, then through the chapel, salons and the lemon-tree courtyard. More than 1,400 works fill the rooms, including paintings by José de Ribera, Sofonisba Anguissola and Joaquín Sorolla, Roman busts, tiles and bullfight posters.

Entry with the audio-guide app costs €15 (reduced €11, Seville residents €10, under-6s free). Free Monday afternoons from 16:00 must be booked online in advance (€1 fee) and sell out fast. Official guided visits in Spanish and English start at 11:55 (€22); night tours cost €25. Allow an hour. The ground floor and gardens suit most visitors.

Spring, when the courtyards flower, is the best season; arrive at the 10:00 opening to beat groups. Hours are 10:00–19:00 from April to September and 10:00–18:00 from October to March, with last entry 45 minutes before closing. It may close in strong winds.
