Bodegas Góngora
Aljarafe bodega dating from 1682, a listed monument with a beam-and-spindle wine press from 1574, offering guided visits with tastings 15 km west of Seville.
About Bodegas Góngora
Wine has been made on the old Pata de Hierro estate in Villanueva del Ariscal since at least the 17th century, and the bodega dates its foundation to 1682, making it one of Spain's oldest working wineries. Its treasure is a giant wooden beam press with a stone counterweight dated to 1574, still in its lagar. The complex became a listed monument (Bien de Interés Cultural) in 2004, and the seventh generation of the family runs it.
Visits start in the Bodega de los Brandys with an audiovisual show, then pass cask halls stacked four butts high and the lagar with the 1574 press. A permanent exhibition explains the solera system and the family story. The Classic visit ends with two wines, the Premium pours four, and the sensory visits add aromas and food pairings with up to six tastings.
The bodega opens Monday to Saturday, 09:00–15:00, with visits by booking. Listed 2026 prices: Classic about €29 (1 hour 15 minutes), Premium about €35, Sensory about €39 and Sensory Premium about €50; a twilight visit runs in summer. Groups take up to 25, with free parking, and the Casa Góngora hotel occupies part of the estate. Seville is 20 minutes away by car.
The Aljarafe harvest falls in late August and September. Buy the semi-sweet Señorío de Heliche or Vermouth Yriarte. Tip: in summer book the twilight visit to avoid the midday heat.
