Fernando Marmolejo Municipal Museum
Santiponce's Museo Municipal Fernando Marmolejo, beside the Roman theatre, shows a Seville goldsmith's reproductions of treasures such as the crown of Recceswinth.
About Fernando Marmolejo Municipal Museum
The Museo Municipal Fernando Marmolejo is Santiponce's own museum, on Calle La Feria next to the village's Roman theatre, about 7 km north-west of central Seville. Santiponce stands on the site of Itálica, the Roman city, so most visitors pass through for the ruins; this small museum is a different and more unusual stop.
Its permanent collection was donated by the Seville goldsmith Fernando Marmolejo Camargo, and the highlights are his workshop's reproductions of famous archaeological treasures, commissioned by Spain's Ministry of Culture. Among them are the Visigothic votive crown of Recceswinth, the Tartessian candelabra from Lebrija and the Almohad keys to the city of Seville. Other rooms show copies of his own silverwork, designs connected with the Esperanza Macarena, and a collection of his nativity scenes, including one inspired by the ruins of Itálica. Three upper-floor rooms host temporary exhibitions.
Entry is free. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays, opens on weekday mornings, and outside summer also on Tuesday to Friday afternoons; between late June and late September it keeps mornings only.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons, when you can pair it comfortably with a walk round Itálica. Come in the morning, before the heat builds and while the museum is sure to be open.

Nearby places to visit
Santiponce lies just outside Seville, a short drive from the city's museums. Closest is Campo de Golf Cartuja (4 km), the nearest place for a round. In the city, the Seville Museum of Fine Arts (6 km) holds major works by Murillo, Zurbarán and Valdés Leal in a former convent. Minigolf Sevilla (7 km) is an indoor, ultraviolet-lit course near the Metropol Parasol. The Flamenco Dance Museum (7 km) explores the art through interactive displays and live shows, and the Museum of Seville Cathedral (7 km) displays the cathedral's paintings and silverware in its sacristies and chapter house. Combining Itálica in the morning with central Seville later works well.
