Bioparc Fuengirola

Bioparc Fuengirola is a rainforest-themed zoo in central Fuengirola, on the site of the 1978 town zoo, with gorillas, orangutans, Sumatran tigers and Komodo dragons in immersive habitats.

About Bioparc Fuengirola

Bioparc Fuengirola stands next to the town hall in central Fuengirola. The town zoo opened here in 1978, was rebuilt from 1999 as a habitat-immersion park with moats and planting instead of bars, and became Bioparc in 2010. A member of EAZA and AIZA, it has bred pygmy hippos, gibbons and Sri Lankan leopards in European programmes.

Five zones form the route: Madagascar with lemurs; Equatorial Africa with gorillas, chimpanzees and pygmy hippos; South-east Asia with orangutans, Sumatran tigers and tapirs; the Indo-Pacific with Komodo dragons and cassowaries; and Central and South America with giant otters and a big aviary. Keeper talks and short guided tours are free.

Open every day from 10:00; closing is 18:00 from November to February and later in summer, with the ticket office shutting an hour earlier. 2026 prices: general (10+) €29.50, children 3–9 and over-65s €23, under-3s free, €1 less online. Allow 3–4 hours; no re-entry. The Plaza de España car park opposite gives 50% off. Fuengirola C1 station is 600 m away.

Arrive at opening, when animals are most active and paths quietest, and check the activity times at the gate. The dense planting gives good shade, though August afternoons are crowded. In winter the ticket office closes at 17:00. The restaurant has a play area, useful with small children.

Nearby places to visit

Bioparc is in the middle of Fuengirola, so it pairs easily with the beach: Playa de Fuengirola (1 km) is a five-minute walk down to the promenade, and Playa de las Gaviotas (2 km) lies at the eastern end of town. Across the river at the western edge, the Moorish Castillo Sohail (1 km) has wide views and hosts summer concerts. The water park AquaMijas (1 km) is just outside town on the A-7, and a combined summer ticket covers both parks. Inland, the white village of Mijas Pueblo (7 km) is a 20-minute drive or bus ride into the hills, with donkey taxis and viewpoints over the coast.
