Cerrado del Águila Golf & Resort is a nine-hole course in the residential area of the same name in Mijas Costa, on the Camino de Acevedo near Las Lagunas de Mijas, inland from Fuengirola. It was founded in 2006 from the design studio of Ignacio García, with Francisco Navarro also credited.

The nine holes make a par 35, with three par 3s, four par 4s and two par 5s, and two loops give an 18-hole round of par 70. It is technical rather than long, with varied ground, wide fairways and large greens. Water shapes the opening stretch: holes 2 and 3 both call for carries of more than 100 metres over lakes, with no way round. The 5th is known for its panoramic view, which reaches the coast of Africa on clear days.

There is a driving range, putting and pitching greens, a pro shop, lessons and buggy hire, and the clubhouse restaurant has a large terrace looking over the Mediterranean. Visitors are welcome every day.

October to May brings the best playing conditions. In summer, take an early tee time to avoid the heat, and pick a clear day if you want to see Africa from the 5th.

Nearby places to visit

Several courses lie within a few minutes' drive. Chaparral Golf Club (2 km) is the nearest, and Mijas Golf (2 km), founded in 1976, has two 18-hole courses, Los Lagos and Los Olivos, the former laid out by Robert Trent Jones. For something lighter, Fuengirola Adventure Golf (3 km) offers adventure golf in neighbouring Fuengirola, a good option with children. In La Cala de Mijas, La Noria Golf (3 km) is a flat nine-hole course with a creek and three lakes, and Santana Golf (3 km) is another Mijas course for a second round. It is easy to combine two of them in a day.
