Calanova Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course in the hills behind La Cala de Mijas. It is reached from the coast road by the La Cala de Mijas turn-off towards the Valle del Golf, the cluster of courses inland from the village. It opened in 2006.

The course is built on rolling land, but the fairways themselves are wide and fairly flat, so there are few blind shots or awkward stances, and the challenge comes on the undulating greens and the water hazards. It measures 5,866 metres from the white tees, 5,773 metres from the yellows and 4,941 metres from the reds. Each hole has several tee platforms so the course can be set up for the day's wind, and most holes have views of the sea or the Sierra de Mijas.

Facilities include a 30-bay driving range, a putting green and practice area, a golf academy, a pro shop with club and buggy hire, and a restaurant whose terrace looks out to the sea.

Spring and autumn are the best seasons, with mild temperatures for walking the rolling ground. In July and August, take an early-morning tee time to finish before the inland heat builds.
