About Chaparral Golf Club

Chaparral Golf Club is in the El Chaparral urbanisation at kilometre 203 of the old N-340 coast road in Mijas Costa, between Fuengirola and La Cala. It lies about 700 metres from the beach.

The 18-hole, par-72 course was designed by the Spanish architect Pepe Gancedo, and andalucia.org gives 2006 as its opening year. Its make-up is unusual: six par 5s, six par 4s and six par 3s. It measures 5,649 metres from the back tees and 4,594 metres from the reds, and plays over undulating ground through old Canary Island pines, with water hazards and sea views from many holes. The club describes it as a parkland forest course and manages it with an emphasis on sustainability.

Practice facilities include a 32-bay driving range with Toptracer ball tracking, a putting green, a pitching green and a practice bunker. There is also a pro shop and the TreeTops restaurant.

The mild coastal climate allows golf all year, with autumn and spring the most pleasant seasons. In summer, take one of the first tee times, around 8am, or play late, as the course stays open until evening; the academy keeps the range open until late at night.

Several golf venues lie within a few kilometres. Closest is Cerrado del Águila Golf & Resort (2 km), a nine-hole course in the hills with lakes, large greens and a 555-metre hole, one of the longest on the coast. In the La Cala valley, La Noria Golf (2 km) is a flat nine-hole course threaded by a creek and three lakes, and iGolf (3 km) is based in La Cala de Mijas. Towards Fuengirola, Fuengirola Adventure Golf (3 km) is a miniature golf course in the river park, good for families. Inland, Mijas Golf (4 km) has two 18-hole courses, the original by Robert Trent Jones.
