About Alferini Golf

Alferini Golf is the championship course of Villa Padierna Golf Club, laid out in the hills of Los Flamingos in Benahavís, just inland from the coast between San Pedro de Alcántara and Estepona. The club credits the design to Cristóbal Guerrero, and the course opened in 2007.

It is the longest and toughest of the club's three layouts: par 73 over 6,641 metres, with five par fives, an unusual par for the Costa del Sol. Four holes lie on the coastal side of the AP-7 motorway; the rest run along valley floors beyond it, away from housing, around four lakes. Feature holes include the 206-metre 8th, with a pond before a shallow green, the 179-metre 14th to a peninsula green, and the long 16th, which follows an arroyo uphill.

Alferini hosted the Ladies European Tour's season-ending Open de España in 2022, won by Caroline Hedwall. Handicap limits are 24 for men and 32 for women, and rounds take about five hours, so a buggy is recommended.

The best months are October to May. Take an early tee time, as the long round and summer heat combine badly by afternoon, and check ahead in late summer, when the course can close for a few days of aeration.

Alferini shares its clubhouse and practice ground with the rest of Villa Padierna Golf Club (400 m), whose Hole 55 restaurant serves all three courses. The club's original layout, Flamingos Golf (400 m), is a par-71 with sea views that hosted the European Senior Tour, and Tramores Golf (700 m) is its short par-63 executive course, ideal for a quick round or a family game. Just beyond, El Paraíso Golf (2 km) is a Gary Player design dating from 1973, and La Resina Golf & Country Club (3 km) in Estepona has a relaxed nine-hole par-3 course. Several rounds can be played here without moving hotel.
