About La Siesta Golf

La Siesta Golf is a nine-hole par-3 course in the Sitio de Calahonda urbanisation in Mijas Costa, reached from the Calahonda exit about 13 km east of Marbella on the road towards Málaga. The club was founded in 1990 to a design by Enrique Canales. It is private, but visitors are welcome every day.

The nine holes make a par 27 and measure 1,744 metres from the yellow tees and 1,542 metres from the reds. The distances between tee and green vary enough to feel like a longer course, and the 7th can need a wood to reach the green. Visitors describe it as hilly, with steep climbs, raised greens with false fronts and quick putting surfaces, so accurate irons count for more than power.

Practice facilities include a driving range, putting green and chipping green, and the clubhouse has a restaurant and bar with views of the sea. Clubs, hand trolleys and buggies can be hired, which helps on the steep slopes.

October to May is the best time to play. In summer, avoid the middle of the day: go early in the morning, or late in the afternoon and stay for the sea view from the clubhouse.

La Siesta sits close to several other courses on the Mijas–Marbella border. Miraflores Golf (2 km) is an 18-hole course opened in 1990 that follows the contours of its valley, with a Toptracer practice range.
