Selwo Marina
Selwo Marina is a 1.67-hectare marine and tropical animal park beside Parque de la Paloma in Benalmádena, opened in 2002, with Andalucía's only penguinarium and about 85 species.
About Selwo Marina
Selwo Marina opened in 2002 on 1.67 hectares beside Parque de la Paloma in Benalmádena Costa. Run by Parques Reunidos and a member of EAZA and AIZA, it keeps about 85 species themed on Latin America and works with the Junta de Andalucía on loggerhead turtles. In July 2026 eight bottlenose dolphins arrived from the closed Marineland Antibes.
The Ice Island is Andalucía's only penguinarium, with four penguin species. Six sea lions use the main pool, and the Amazon area has piranhas, anacondas and stingrays, plus squirrel monkeys, sloths, toucans and giant tortoises. A bird presentation, dolphin feeding and keeper talks are included; penguin and monkey encounters cost extra.
The 2026 season began on 13 February; hours are usually 10:00–18:00 (19:00 in summer), with some closed days in winter. Online tickets (ages 8–64) start at €15.90 (gate €17.90), children 3–7 and over-65s €13.90, under-3s free. Allow 2–4 hours. Arroyo de la Miel station (C1) and buses 110 and 120 are a short walk away.
Check the day's presentation times in the app and plan around the penguins and bird flights. Weekday mornings outside August are quietest. Selwo Marina sits beside Parque de la Paloma, a free municipal park with lakes, rabbits and ducks, and the Benalmádena cable car station is a few minutes' walk away (1 km). The seafront at Playa de Santa Ana (1 km) and the Puerto Marina, home to Sea Life Benalmádena (2 km), are downhill towards the sea. Torremolinos, with Crocodile Park Torremolinos (4 km) and the long beach of Playa de la Carihuela (3 km), is just to the east. Up in Benalmádena Pueblo, the Benalmádena Museum (4 km) has archaeology finds from the area, and Monowa Butterfly Park (4 km) stands next to the Buddhist stupa on the hill.
