Selwo Aventura

Selwo Aventura is a 100-hectare safari-style animal park in the hills behind Estepona, opened in 1999, with about 105 species, mostly African, seen from walkways, rope bridges and trucks.

About Selwo Aventura

Selwo Aventura opened in November 1999 on a 100-hectare valley just inland from the A-7 between Estepona and San Pedro. Run by Parques Reunidos and a member of EAZA and AIZA, it holds about 105 species, mostly African, and joins European breeding programmes; the first Atlas lion cubs born here and Hope, a Sumatran elephant, are recent arrivals.

The loop crosses four zones: Nature's Gateway, the walk-through Birds Canyon aviary, the Central Village with its wooden bridge over the Asian elephants, and the Lakes Reserve savannah of rhinos, zebras and antelopes. Rope bridges, bird presentations and keeper talks are included; the Serengeti truck safari costs €16.

The 2026 season opened on 13 February; hours are usually 10:00–18:00, later in summer. Online tickets (ages 8–64) start at €19.90 (gate €29.90), children 3–7 and over-65s from €15.90, under-3s free. Allow 4–6 hours. Parking is €5. Coastal buses stop on the A-7, 1.5 km below the gate. Food may only be eaten in designated areas.

Spring and autumn weekdays are the most comfortable; in summer arrive at opening, as the savannah paths have little shade. Prices are dynamic, so buy online early and book the safari on arrival. Bring hats, water and good shoes: some paths are steep, so pushchairs need large wheels.

Nearby places to visit

Selwo Aventura is a short drive from the quieter beaches of eastern Estepona: Playa Arroyo de las Cañas (1 km), the dune-backed Playa de Guadalmansa (1 km) and Playa del Castor (2 km) are all within a few minutes' drive, so a swim makes a good end to a hot day at the park. Estepona town centre, with the Mercado Santa Ana, Estepona (7 km) and the promenade at Playa de La Rada (6 km), is 15 minutes west. Heading inland, the white village of Casares (17 km) sits on a ridge above the coast. For a second animal day, Selwo Marina in Benalmádena belongs to the same group and shares the SelwoPack combined ticket.
