About Playa del Castor

Playa del Castor, officially Playa del Río Castor, is a narrow beach on the eastern side of Estepona's coast, Málaga province. It takes its name from the Río Castor, which reaches the sea here, and it runs for about 880 metres, from Punta del Castor to the mouth of the Río Velerín, around 25 metres wide.

The shore is sand mixed with boulders, typical of this stretch, and the swell is usually moderate. The river mouth belongs to the Río Castor Site of Community Importance. Behind the beach are older houses and residential estates rather than hotels, and a track leads down past allotments, with a beach bar at Punta del Castor.

Documented services are modest: sunbed and umbrella hire, litter bins and regular cleaning, with no lifeguards listed. The nearest road is the A-7, the old N-340, served by the interurban bus between Estepona and Marbella, and there is a small unsupervised car park with fewer than 50 spaces.

June and September bring warm water without the August crowds. Arrive in the morning, before the small car park fills and while the coarse sand is still cool underfoot.

Nearby places to visit

Just east, Playa Arroyo de las Cañas (900 m) runs from the Río Velerín past the 16th-century Torre de Velerín watchtower. Beyond it, Playa de Guadalmansa (1 km) is a narrow strand by the protected Guadalmansa river mouth, with a kitesurfing zone. To the west, Playa del Padrón (2 km) is a busier semi-urban beach with full services and beach clubs. Inland, La Resina Golf & Country Club (3 km) is a short nine-hole course set among lakes and olive trees, opened in 2005.
