About Playa de Fuengirola

Playa de Fuengirola is the town-centre beach of Fuengirola, running south-west from the port towards Sohail Castle along the Paseo Marítimo Rey de España. About 1,550 m long and 40 m wide, it is a fully urban beach of sand backed by apartment blocks and a promenade that runs for around 7 km along the whole seafront.

It holds the Blue Flag and Spain's 'Q' tourist quality mark, lifeguards patrol it in season, helped by surveillance drones, and there is an adapted bathing area for people with reduced mobility. A nautical club, children's and sports areas, sunbed and umbrella hire, water-sports rental and beach bars line the sand, and the water is usually calm.

There is an unguarded car park with more than 100 spaces, but the beach is also an easy walk from the town centre and from Fuengirola's Cercanías station, the end of the line from Málaga. Just beyond the south-western end, the Moorish castle of Sohail stands above the mouth of the Río Fuengirola.

The beach is heavily used in summer. May, June and September give warm water with more room; in July and August arrive before late morning to claim space near the water. In winter the promenade still makes a pleasant midday walk.

Nearby places to visit

In town, Fuengirola Adventure Golf (1 km) is a mini-golf course that suits families after a beach session. Following the promenade north-east, Playa de las Gaviotas (2 km) has golden sand, beach bars and water sports. Mijas has several full-size courses within a short drive: Mijas Golf (4 km), a two-course complex in the valley behind Fuengirola, Cerrado del Águila Golf & Resort (4 km) and Chaparral Golf Club (4 km). With all of them so close, it is easy to combine a morning round with an afternoon on the beach and an evening stroll along the promenade.
