About San Pedro Golf Club

San Pedro Golf Club is a small municipal practice centre on the western outskirts of San Pedro de Alcántara, the town in the west of Marbella municipality, less than a kilometre from Real Club de Golf Guadalmina. Unlike the private clubs around it, it is cheap, informal and aimed at families, beginners and golfers who simply want to hit balls.

At the driving range you buy a token in the clubhouse and collect a bucket of balls from a dispenser behind it, and there is a practice bunker and two putting greens with numbered holes, one grass and one artificial. Adult and children's clubs can be borrowed, private lessons are available, and children are welcome to practise or learn. The clubhouse sells food, drinks and ice cream, and its indoor and outdoor seats look over the range and greens. Parking outside the gate is free.

There are no holes to play, so treat it as a practice ground rather than a course.

Any month works for practice, though October to May is the most comfortable. It opens from 9:00 until midnight every day, so on summer days come in the cooler evening.

The neighbouring Real Club de Golf Guadalmina (700 m), founded in 1959, is the place for a full round, with two 18-hole courses, and Atalaya Golf & Country Club (2 km), dating from 1968, lies just over the Estepona boundary. The sea is close: Playa de San Pedro de Alcántara (2 km) is the town beach, backed by a promenade shaded by eucalyptus and palms, and Playa de Linda Vista (2 km) has the ruins of the Vega del Mar basilica in the wood behind it. To the west, Playa de Casasola (2 km) is a narrow strip of sand and gravel below the Torre de Baños watchtower.
