Playa de San Pedro de Alcántara

Playa de San Pedro de Alcántara is the 1.4 km seafront of San Pedro in western Marbella, dark sand and gravel backed by a promenade shaded by eucalyptus and palms.

About Playa de San Pedro de Alcántara

Playa de San Pedro de Alcántara is the seafront of San Pedro, the town in the western part of Marbella municipality, a few kilometres west of Puerto Banús along the old N-340. Spain's tourism portal gives it as about 1,400 metres long and 35 metres wide, a semi-urban beach of dark sand mixed with gravel, so sandals help along the waterline.

San Pedro was founded in 1860 by the Marqués del Duero as an agricultural colony, and it still feels more like a working town than a resort. The beach is backed by a promenade shaded by eucalyptus and palm trees. The coast here has some of the oldest remains in the Marbella area: the 4th-century Roman baths of Las Bóvedas beside Guadalmina beach, with a 16th-century watchtower next to them, and the 4th to 6th-century early Christian basilica and necropolis of Vega del Mar in Linda Vista Baja.

Facilities include sunbed and umbrella hire, water sports hire including jet skis, toilets, showers, beach bars and a tourist office. The beach holds a Blue Flag.

Visit in May, June or late September, when the water is warm and sunbeds are easier to find. Swim in the morning, then return in the early evening for the promenade.

The neighbouring beaches are all within walking distance along the shore. Playa de Linda Vista (500 m) lies close to the Vega del Mar basilica site, and Playa de Cortijo Blanco (900 m) continues the San Pedro seafront, with Playa El Rodeito (2 km) a little further along. Golf is just as close: Real Club de Golf Guadalmina (2 km) belongs to the Guadalmina estate just west of the town, and San Pedro Golf Club (2 km) is a second option nearby. Leave the car near the boulevard and walk the shore between the beaches.
