About Santa Clara Golf Marbella

Santa Clara Golf Marbella is an 18-hole course on the landward side of the coast road about 5 km east of Marbella town centre, at kilometre 187.5, opposite the Los Monteros hotel. It was designed by Enrique Canales Busquets and opened in early summer 2001, after about a year left to settle.

Most of the course is flat, with large greens and some long par 3s, which makes it more forgiving to walk round than many of the hillside courses on this coast. The exception is the climb up the 8th to the highest point, the par-5 9th, from which you look down towards the Mediterranean. The layout has been reworked since 2017: the old 3rd, a short dogleg par 4 blocked by trees, became a 180-metre par 3 played from raised tees, and the 2nd was lengthened into a par 4 that tempts big hitters to carry a stream. After these changes the course plays to par 71.

There is a golf school, buggies, and a multi-storey clubhouse.

The Costa del Sol golf season peaks from October to May, when temperatures suit a full round. In July and August, book an early tee time and finish before the midday heat, especially if you plan to walk.

Next door, Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort (600 m), the former Marbella Golf & Country Club, is another 18-hole course on the same stretch of coast. The sea is a short drive away: Playa de Costa Bella (1 km) is a short stretch of sand backed by dunes, and Playa del Real de Zaragoza (3 km) is a 1.7-kilometre golden-sand beach in the Las Chapas district. Back towards Marbella, Río Real Golf Marbella (3 km) is the classic Javier Arana course of 1965, following the Río Real down to the sea, and its teaching academy runs lessons and clinics on the same estate.
