Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort
Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort, the former Marbella Golf & Country Club, is a short but demanding par-72 Robert Trent Jones Sr course at Altos de los Monteros, east of Marbella, split by the main road.
About Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort
Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort, called Marbella Golf & Country Club until Higuerón Developments bought and renamed it in November 2025, is open and takes green-fee bookings online. It occupies an estate of about one square kilometre at Altos de los Monteros, on the N-340 at kilometre 188, roughly 5 km east of Marbella town centre. Robert Trent Jones Sr made his first sketches for it in 1973, but it took around two decades to open.
The 18-hole, par-72 course is short, under 6,000 metres, but demanding. The main road splits it. Six holes on the inland side are steep and wooded, crossed by ravines that call for accurate tee shots, while the holes on the seaward side are gentler and hold most of the lakes. A 2009 remodel by Craig Cooke built four new holes. The par-5 6th, rated the hardest, crosses a river and a lake, the 8th looks out on clear days to Gibraltar and North Africa, and the par-3 16th has the sea in view and a lake behind the green.
The new owner plans to have the course reworked by Robert Trent Jones Jr, son of its original designer, and to add a Waldorf Astoria hotel, scheduled to open in 2029.
October to May suits the climbs best. In summer, book an early morning tee time.
