Tabanco El Pasaje
Jerez's oldest working tabanco, opened on 16 December 1925, pouring fino and oloroso from the barrel with chacinas and cheese, and staging flamenco three times a day.
About Tabanco El Pasaje
José González Navarro opened El Pasaje on 16 December 1925. The premises had been a grocery, then a club for Jerez waiters and, in the early 1920s, the tabanco La Fortuna. It is named El Pasaje because it runs through the block, with doors on Calle Santa María 8 and Calle Mesones 5. Tabancos were the despachos where Jerez bought wine from the cask and drank it at the counter; El Pasaje marked its centenary in 2025.
Wines come from the barrels behind the bar: fino, manzanilla, amontillado, oloroso, palo cortado and cream, from local bodegas including El Maestro Sierra. Food is tabanco fare: chacinas (cured pork sausages), Payoyo cheese from the Sierra de Cádiz, chicharrones, mojama and tuna. Flamenco shows of cante, baile and guitar run daily at 14:00, 19:30 and 21:30; watch from the bar with a glass, or book a table.
It opens Monday to Saturday 11:30–16:00 and 19:00–23:30, and Sunday 12:00–16:00 and 19:00–23:30. The seated show with a tasting menu of tapas and drinks costs €35 per person (2026). Book online or by phone two or three days ahead in high season. Children are welcome, though the room is small.
Come in the late morning for a quiet copa among the old posters and demijohns, or for the 14:00 show with lunch. Evening shows fill fastest at weekends and during the May Feria del Caballo. Tip: order a glass of each style, fino to oloroso, to compare them.
