Bodegas Tío Pepe (González Byass)

The González Byass sherry bodega beside Jerez Cathedral, founded in 1835 and home of Tío Pepe fino, with vine-covered streets, historic cellars and tours in English.

About Bodegas Tío Pepe (González Byass)

Manuel María González Ángel founded the business in 1835 and named his dry fino after his uncle José, the Tío Pepe of the label. Still family-run, González Byass now owns 38 brands, but the Jerez bodega remains its heart. It sits inside the old walls next to the Alcázar and makes DO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry wines from Palomino grapes, from fino and amontillado to oloroso, palo cortado and Pedro Ximénez.

The guided tour lasts about 90 minutes and crosses the complex: the vine-shaded Calle Ciegos, old patios, the circular La Concha bodega with its iron roof, and cellars of casks signed by famous visitors. Standard tours end with two wines; others add four wines, tapas, cheese and gildas, or a VORS line-up. There is also a shop, a wine bar and the Pedro Nolasco restaurant.

Tours run Tuesday to Sunday: in Spanish at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 17:00, in English at 11:30, 12:30 and 16:30 and in German at 12:30 and 16:30 (2026). The Tío Pepe Experience with two wines costs €26.90, the four-wine tour €30.50, tapas versions €32.90–€36.50 and the Premium VORS visit €57. Book online. The site is accessible for wheelchairs and the train station is 21 minutes on foot.

September brings the Fiestas de la Vendimia, and zambomba evenings fill December. Buy Tío Pepe en Rama, released each spring, or an old oloroso. If you want to stay on, the Hotel Bodega Tío Pepe has rooms inside the bodega walls.
