About The Range Golf Academy

The Range Golf Academy, usually called The Range Marbella, is a driving range and golf school in the Los Olivos area of Nueva Andalucía, in Marbella's Golf Valley on Málaga's Costa del Sol. It lies less than 2 km from Puerto Banús.

This is a practice and teaching centre, not a course. Its range has 40 bays fitted with Trackman Range, which tracks ball flight and club data in real time and lets students record and compare their shots. The academy has also introduced RoboGolfPro, billed as Europe's first robotic golf instructor. Owner and manager Michael Meeus has overseen a major renovation, adding a club-fitting service, a physiotherapy clinic and biomechanics-based coaching aimed at reducing injury as well as lowering scores.

The Green restaurant has a terrace looking over the range towards La Concha, Marbella's landmark mountain, and serves meat and fish dishes, salads and burgers; food can be ordered to the bays. There is a protected children's play area, and the academy has run free beginners' sessions on two Saturdays a month.

Autumn to spring is the best time for a course of lessons. In summer, practise early in the morning or in the evening, when the bays are cooler than at midday.

The academy sits among the courses of Marbella's Golf Valley. Next door, Aloha Golf Club (500 m) was the last design of Javier Arana, opened in 1975. Real Club de Golf Las Brisas (1 km) is one of the valley's Robert Trent Jones courses. Towards the sea, Playa Río Verde (2 km) runs from the eastern side of Puerto Banús to the mouth of the Río Verde. Magna Golf Marbella (2 km) is another course a short drive away, and Los Naranjos Golf Club (2 km), a further Robert Trent Jones design, completes a cluster where a range session can easily be followed by a full round.
