Playa de la Casería is San Fernando's beach on the Bay of Cádiz, a strip of about 900 metres on the north-west side of the town, facing the inner bay rather than the open Atlantic. It lies in the Casería de Ossio area, beside the small marina of the Club Náutico Casería de Ossio.

This is a working shore more than a bathing beach. The shore is mostly mud with little sand, and it is popular with local anglers, while swimmers generally head for San Fernando's Atlantic beaches instead. The water is usually calm and the beach is rarely busy, which suits a quiet walk along the waterline with views across the bay.

Facilities are simple: showers and public toilets, with free, unsupervised parking nearby. Access from the CA-33 road is easy, so it works well as a short stop.

Spring and autumn are the best seasons, when the light is soft and the heat moderate; in high summer there is little shade. Come in the late afternoon, when anglers set up along the shore and the low sun lights the water towards Cádiz. Check the tide table: at low water the mud is much more exposed.

Nearby places to visit

San Fernando's most famous son is honoured at the Camarón Museum (2 km), devoted to the flamenco singer Camarón de la Isla. For proper bathing, cross to the Atlantic side of the isthmus: Playa de Urrutia (5 km), between Cortadura and Camposoto, and the long sands of Playa de Torregorda (5 km) and Playa de El Chato (5 km) face the open ocean along the road to Cádiz. Closer to the city, Playa de la Gamba (5 km) lies just north of Cortadura. All are a short drive or bus ride away, and the museum makes a good start before an afternoon on the sand.
