Hacienda Santa María 1885
Olive estate at Tobaruela, south-west of Linares, with late-19th-century farm buildings, a 1930s hydraulic press mill, a modern almazara and more than 1,000 hectares of organic groves.
About Hacienda Santa María 1885
The hacienda stands at Tobaruela, a village beside a late-15th-century castle that had its own town council until 1872 and has since emptied. The farm buildings date from about 1880, with reforms in 1900; in the mid-1930s a new oil mill was added (its facade sign reads 1935), its ground floor tiled and fitted with hydraulic presses from the José Fuentes Cardona foundry in Úbeda. A modern mill now works the organic Picual and Arbequina of more than 1,000 hectares of groves, picked early in October and bottled as Santa María 1885, a Jaén Selección oil in 2025.
Guided visits cross the gated entrance and the cobbled courtyards to the old press mill and cellars, walk through plots of centuries-old and young trees, and enter the modern mill. They end with a tasting of several extra virgin oils with food pairings. Shorter tasting workshops are also offered.
The standard visit lasts about two hours and costs from €15 per person (2026); an introductory tasting workshop is from €12. Visits run on weekdays, weekends and holidays in Spanish, English or French, but must be booked ahead by phone. Wear comfortable shoes for the groves, and mention allergies for the pairing. The estate is on the A-302 at km 3, 5 km from Linares.
The mill works from November to January; on 22 November 2026 the estate hosts a Rutas del Aceite visit with a four-dish pairing. Buy the organic Santa María 1885 on site.
