About Raphael Museum of Linares
The Museo de Raphael is the official museum of the singer Raphael, who was born in Linares in 1943. It fills the upper floor of El Pósito, an 18th-century granary at Calle Iglesia 5, which later served as a prison and, from 1975, as a special education school before its restoration.
Raphael was personally involved in creating the museum and donated more than 400 original pieces from his career. The highlight of the trophy room is a uranium disc awarded in 1980 for sales of 50 million records, an honour that, according to Andalucía's tourist board, only five musicians worldwide have received. Audiovisual devices cover his life from childhood to 2010.
Elsewhere in El Pósito, the city's interpretation centre covers Linares' history, flamenco and bullfighting, with a 360-degree projection recreating the Santa Margarita bullring, built in 1866. Outside, in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, stands a 2.8-metre statue of Raphael made of recycled glass, which he unveiled in September 2021.
El Pósito opens Wednesday to Sunday, mornings and late afternoons; check times before you go. Spring and autumn avoid the fierce Jaén summer heat, and a Thursday or Saturday morning also lets you visit the Andrés Segovia museum, which keeps limited hours.

Linares celebrates two very different musicians. The Andrés Segovia Museum (300 m), in the Palacio de los Orozco, follows the guitarist's life and holds the crypt where he has rested since 2002; it opens only a few days a week, so check before pairing it with this visit. About 25 km east, the Renaissance town of Úbeda adds two more museums: the Archaeological Museum of Úbeda (25 km), with finds from the surrounding countryside, and the St John of the Cross Museum (25 km), which explores the life of the mystic poet who died there in 1591. Allow a full day to see both towns properly.
