Mountain winery at 1,150 m on the Sierra de la Contraviesa near Murtas, a founder of DOP Granada, with a wine museum, an Alpujarra restaurant and 30 ha of its own vines.
About Bodega Cuatro Vientos
Cuatro Vientos, with half a century of history, helped found the Granada designation of origin. Its trellised vineyards, 30 hectares of its own and 10 more shared, sit at an average of 1,150 metres on south-facing slopes between Sierra Nevada and the sea. It sells three families of wine: Marqués de la Contraviesa, created in 1995, and the Mallafolla and 4V ranges launched in 2012, several under DOP Granada.
The guided visit covers the bodega and its Centro Temático del Vino, a museum of Contraviesa wine making with presses, casks and audiovisual displays in English, German and Spanish, plus a separate museum of farm tools. Tastings take place in an audiovisual room; the mesón serves Alpujarra dishes and the shop sells the range.
The restaurant opens Tuesday to Friday from 11:00 to 18:30 and at weekends and holidays from 11:00 to 19:00; closed Mondays. Guided visits, tasting courses and group tastings are arranged on 630 236 244 or 958 956 958. The Ruta de los Vinos de Granada sells a weekend visit at €55 per person (2026, minimum four). The finca is 7 km from Murtas on the Contraviesa road, with ample parking.
The almond blossom in February and the harvest in early autumn are the best times; summer evenings are cool at this height. Buy a bottle of the Contraviesa rosado, the local style. Tip: book lunch at the mesón and stay over in the finca's tower suite rather than drive the mountain roads after tasting.
