Playa de la Sirena Loca
Playa de la Sirena Loca, also called Playa de Poniente or del Carboncillo, is Adra's 1.1 km main town beach of sand and gravel, with a Blue Flag and shaded pergolas on decking.
About Playa de la Sirena Loca
Playa de la Sirena Loca is one of the names for Adra's Playa de Poniente, also called Playa del Carboncillo, the main town beach of this Poniente Almeriense port. It is about 1.1 km long and up to 70 metres wide, a mix of sand and gravel backed by a seafront promenade, with the Puerto Deportivo de Adra close by.
Adra is one of the oldest towns on this coast, founded by the Phoenicians as Abdera, and its harbour still shelters a working fishing fleet. The beach has a reputation as one of the cleanest in the area; it has carried the Blue Flag and received Spain's Q for tourist quality in 2017.
Facilities are comprehensive: lifeguards, toilets, showers, foot showers, beach bars, sunbed and parasol hire, water-sports rental, a sailing club, and children's and sports areas. Shaded pergolas with wooden decking, step-free access and an amphibious wheelchair make it accessible, and there is a car park for 50 to 100 cars.
June and September are the best months, warm but less crowded than the peak weeks of summer, when the beach is often full. Arrive in the morning to claim space under the pergolas; by evening, the promenade is the place for a walk and a drink.

Nearby places to visit
Adra's nearest neighbours lie along the coast in El Ejido, to the east. Playa de Poniente (21 km) is on that municipality's shore, and Club de Golf Almerimar (22 km) is the course of the Almerimar marina resort, a good choice for a round within half an hour or so of Adra. Further on, Playa de Cerrillos (30 km) is a long, undeveloped beach on the edge of the Punta Entinas-Sabinar natural area, very different in character from Adra's town beaches. All three are reached easily along the A-7 motorway, so a round of golf or a change of beach makes a simple half-day trip.
