Taberna Casa Enrique
Granada's oldest taberna, a tiny wine bar by Puerta Real that began as a coaching inn in 1870 and became a tavern in 1911, now with a Guía Repsol Solete con Solera.
About Taberna Casa Enrique
The premises at Acera del Darro 8 opened in 1870 as a parada de postas, where coaches stopped at Puerta Real, then became a wine shop and later a bottler supplying hotels. In 1911 Enrique Martínez turned it into a taberna. It closed in 2022 and reopened a year later with the same look: a wooden counter, hams hanging overhead and walls of press cuttings and photographs of politicians, writers and artists. In 2024 Guía Repsol named it one of Granada's five Soletes con Solera.
Wine is the point here, with more than a hundred labels and staff who will suggest a glass to suit. To eat there are ibérico ham cut to order, cheese and pâté boards, good tinned fish (conservas) and dishes such as artichokes. Each drink comes with a small free tapa, typically a tosta; the first is often ibérico pork fat with dates. The back room, the trastienda, works as a small dining area.
The official site gives Monday to Saturday 13:00–16:00 and 20:00–00:00, and Sunday 13:00–16:00; check by phone, as an older listing shows Sunday closed. A glass with tapa costs about €3–5 and boards about €12–20 (2026); about €20–35 per person. The room is very small and mostly standing, with a little dining area at the back.
Go early in the evening, around 20:00, when there is still space at the bar; after 21:30 it fills with locals. Lunch on weekdays is quieter. Tip: tell the staff what you like and let them choose the wine.

Casa Enrique stands where the Acera del Darro meets Puerta Real, between the old centre and the river walk. Bar Los Diamantes (160 m) on Calle Navas and Restaurante Chikito (190 m) on Plaza del Campillo make obvious next stops. The 14th-century Corral del Carbón (280 m) and the Royal Chapel of Granada (380 m) are a short walk north, with Granada Cathedral (450 m) beyond. For ham and cheese to take home, the Mercado de San Agustín, Granada (540 m) is close to the cathedral, and the riverside paseo leads on to the Genil.
