About Manuel de Falla House Museum
The Casa Museo Manuel de Falla is the carmen, a Granada house with its own walled garden, where the Cádiz-born composer lived with his sister María del Carmen from 1922 until he left for exile in Argentina in 1939. It stands at Calle Antequeruela Alta 11, in the highest part of the Realejo quarter, just below the Alhambra and off the Paseo de los Mártires.
Falla chose a modest house that suited his reserved character, and it has been kept much as he left it, with original furniture, his work spaces, personal objects and gifts. In the salon stand his piano and the table where he received friends such as Federico García Lorca, with whom he organised the 1922 Concurso de Cante Jondo at the Alhambra. Small details stay in the mind: a tapestry given to him by nuns from Madrid, a medieval psaltery, and a wooden chair fitted with wheels so he could move it when unwell. Visits are guided.
It opens only in the mornings and on Saturdays, closing on Sundays, Mondays and holidays; check current times. Falla was born in 1876 and died in Argentina in 1946.
Spring and autumn are best for the walk up. Come mid-morning, then continue to the Alhambra.

The house is on the Alhambra hill, so two museums are an easy walk. Up the hill, the Ángel Barrios Legacy Museum (300 m) occupies old Islamic baths inside the Alhambra, home of the guitarist and composer who belonged to Falla's circle; check whether it is open. Down in the valley, the Archaeological Museum of Granada (600 m) fills a Renaissance palace on the Carrera del Darro. Granada Golf Club (9 km) at Las Gabias faces the Sierra Nevada. Further west, the Federico García Lorca House Museum (21 km) in Valderrubio was the poet's family home.
