Taberna Salinas

Old Córdoba tavern near the Plaza de la Corredera, trading since 1879 and run by the Salinas family since 1924, with a glazed patio, Montilla-Moriles casks and classic Cordoban raciones.

About Taberna Salinas

The house dates its trade on Calle Tundidores to 1879; the city tourist board says Francisco de Paula Salinas took over the older wine shop in 1924, the year painted on the sign. The original cellar survives, with the piquera (a hatch once used to sell wine to take away), a red marble counter, eleven Montilla-Moriles casks and a glass-roofed patio with marble tables. Pío Baroja, Ortega y Gasset and Camilo José Cela drank here, and it holds a Guía Repsol Solete.

The menu is a catalogue of Cordoban home cooking: naranjas picás (chopped orange with olive oil and salt cod), salmorejo, espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chickpeas), sangre encebollada (blood with onions), chickpea stew with pig's trotters, fried aubergines with cane honey and rabo de toro (oxtail stew). Fino, amontillado and oloroso from Montilla-Moriles are poured by the glass.

It opens Monday to Friday 12:30-16:00 and 20:00-23:30, Saturday 12:30-16:00, and closes on Sundays. Raciones cost roughly €7-12 and a meal with wine about €20-30 per person (2026, approximate). Tables can be booked by phone; the patio is the best place to sit. It suits anyone wanting plain local food at moderate prices.

Arrive at 13:30 for lunch or soon after 20:00 for dinner, as tables fill once local meal times start. Salmorejo and naranjas picás are best in warm months, stews in winter. Saturday evening and Sunday are closed, so plan a weekday dinner.
