Palacio de Viana
Palacio de Viana is a noble mansion in Córdoba's Santa Marina quarter, lived in from 1425 to 1980, whose 12 patios and garden form the largest collection of patios in the city.
About Palacio de Viana
The Palacio de Viana grew from a group of houses into one of the leading noble residences in Spain, home to successive families, latterly the Marquesses of Viana, from 1425 until 1980. Open to visitors for over 40 years, it is run by the Fundación Viana, formed by Kutxabank and the Diputación de Córdoba, and is protected as a national historic-artistic monument and an artistic garden.
The route links 12 patios, among them the Patio de Recibo, the Patio de las Rejas, the Patio de los Naranjos, the Patio de la Madama and the Patio de las Columnas, plus a formal garden and the stables. The guided tour of the upper floor shows the house as lived in, with tapestries, a Baroque room and paintings including works by Julio Romero de Torres.
Tickets cost €8.50 for the patios and ground-floor rooms, €9 for the 40-minute guided tour of the interior (in Spanish, with English text) or €14 combined; under-10s go free. Buy the interior tour online in busy periods. Ramps make the patios accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs, and a lift serves the interior. There is no parking. Allow 1–1.5 hours.
The patios are at their best in late April and May, when the city's patio festival brings crowds, so arrive at 10:00 opening. Photos are allowed in the patios but not in the stables or indoors. In July and August it opens 09:00–15:00 only.
