Casa El Pisto
Taberna San Miguel, known as Casa El Pisto, a bullfighting tavern founded in 1880 beside the church of San Miguel in Córdoba, named after its pisto with fried egg and Repsol Solete.
About Casa El Pisto
Founded in 1880 as a tavern and tobacconist, Taberna San Miguel has always been tied to bullfighting: the Club Guerrita was founded here on 18 July 1896, Manolete's father was a regular and the painter Julio Romero de Torres drank here. The López-Acedo family has run it since 1974, joining two tavern dynasties, El Pisto of San Basilio and Paco Acedo of the Malmuerta. Dolores Acedo was named Señora de las Tabernas in 2002, the house won a FITUR Puerta de Andalucía award in 2000, and it holds a Guía Repsol Solete.
The pisto is the reason to come: peppers, onion and tomato fried one after another, finished with smoked paprika and topped with a fried egg. Also good are salmorejo, albóndigas en caldo (meatballs in broth), manitas de cerdo (pig's trotters), rabo de toro and fried fish, all coated in maize or chickpea flour and so gluten-free. Montilla-Moriles wines are poured under hanging hams.
It opens Monday to Saturday 12:00-16:00 according to its website, which lists no evening hours; it closes on Sundays (phone ahead). Raciones cost about €8-16, around €20-30 per person (2026, approximate). Patio and salón tables can be booked by phone; the bar is walk-in.
Come at 13:00 for a place at the bar, or book for 14:00. Look for the old 'Estoy de juerga' labels and the side door on Calle San Zoilo, used by Manolete's superstitious father. Stews are best in winter.
