Las Camachas, Montilla
Montilla's classic restaurant since 1962, built like an old Andalusian inn at the entrance to town, with a bar of over 200 wines, a sacristy of 25 casks and campiña cooking.
About Las Camachas, Montilla
The restaurant opened in 1962 and takes its name from the old inn of Elvira García, 'La Camacha', and the Montilla women Cervantes wrote about in El coloquio de los perros. The building recalls an Andalusian mesón, with five dining rooms, a taberna bar and a sacristía of 25 American oak casks of Montilla-Moriles wine. Guests have included Julio Anguita, Camilo José Cela and the actress Belén Rueda, according to the house.
The kitchen uses local, seasonal produce: rabo de toro, alcauciles (artichokes) al Montilla, aged beef, fish from the Málaga market, salmorejo and the cured hams and cheeses of the province. The list has more than 200 wines, with finos, amontillados and Pedro Ximénez from nearby bodegas, many by the glass.
It opens daily from 13:00; the regional tourism listing gives closing at 01:00 Monday to Thursday and 02:00 on Friday and Saturday, earlier on Sunday, so check evening hours. Main dishes cost about €15-30, about €35-50 per person with wine (2026, approximate). Book at weekends (957 650 004). There is parking and a terrace by the A-45 junction.
Pair it with a morning bodega visit and book lunch for 14:00. Artichokes are best from November to April; the September harvest festival is the busiest time. Start with a fino from the house casks.
