Bodegas Pérez Barquero
Montilla bodega founded in 1905 whose foundational Amontillado solera earned 100 Parker points, offering daily guided visits through patios, tinaja halls and cask cellars.
About Bodegas Pérez Barquero
Pérez Barquero was founded in 1905, and the soleras laid down that year are still in use; a second set begun in 1955 names the 1955 Series. The bodega farms its own DO Montilla-Moriles vineyards on albariza and works almost only with Pedro Ximénez, from the dry Gran Barquero fino to aged sweet PX. In 2016 its Amontillado Solera Fundacional scored 100 points from The Wine Advocate, and a second perfect score followed in 2024.
Visits cross whitewashed patios into halls of clay tinajas, where young wine ferments, and cellars of century-old oak butts where the soleras age under flor or by oxidation. The guide explains albariza, climate and Pedro Ximénez before a tasting of four or five wines. The shop also sells brandy, vinegar and vermouth.
Visits run daily, with the regular tour at 11:30, lasting about 1 hour 30 minutes. Listed 2026 prices are €15 with four wines, €18 for the four-wine 'La flor del vino' visit and €22 with five; under-5s free. Book online, by email or on 957 650 500. The bodega is on the western side of central Montilla with street parking; agree on a driver before tasting.
Each May the courtyards open for Montilla's Patios de Bodega evenings, and the harvest starts in August. Buy an amontillado from the 1905 Series. Tip: check weekend visits in advance, as the office answers Monday to Friday, 07:00–15:00.
