About Museum of the Passion
The Museo de la Pasión is a small museum on Calle Pepita Jiménez in Cabra, in Córdoba's Subbética; the street takes its name from the best-known novel of Juan Valera, Cabra's most famous writer. As its name suggests, it belongs to the town's Holy Week heritage, and it is one of the stops on Cabra's guided Passion tour.
That heritage runs deep. Cabra's Semana Santa has been a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest since 1989, with 27 penitential brotherhoods, the oldest of them the Vera Cruz, whose rules date from 1522. The processional images include a recumbent Christ by José de Mora, a Soledad attributed to Pedro de Mena and figures attributed to Salzillo, while the gold-embroidered tunic of Jesús Nazareno, made in Cádiz in 1785, is much admired.
Little is published about the museum's own displays or hours. The simplest way in is the guided tour 'La Pasión en Cabra', which starts at the door of the church of Santo Domingo on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 18:00, lasts two hours and includes entry; book through the Argamasa collective.
Come in Lent or Holy Week to see the brotherhoods' work in context, or in spring or autumn for a quieter visit. The early-evening tour avoids the afternoon heat.

The Municipal Archaeological Museum Cabra (200 m) is in the Casa de Cultura, the former Bank of Spain building, with Roman sculpture including a Sleeping Eros and a figure of Dionysus; it pairs naturally with a morning in town before the evening Passion tour. South-east across the Subbética, the Anís Museum (17 km) in Rute occupies a distillery dating from 1908 and ends with a tasting. Further east, the Adolfo Lozano Sidro House Museum (22 km) in Priego de Córdoba shows the work of the illustrator who drew for ABC and Blanco y Negro for decades. Together they make a good day across the Subbética.
