Casa Julio, Granada
Tiny tiled taberna on Calle Hermosa, opened in 1947 and listed as a Monumento Local, known for fried fish and a Guía Repsol Solete con Solera for its unchanged bar.
About Casa Julio, Granada
Casa Julio opened in 1947 at Calle Hermosa 5, an alley off Calle Elvira just above Plaza Nueva. It still has its wall tiles from the Ramos Rejano factory, and the city council has catalogued the premises as a Monumento Local. In its early decades regulars came in their best clothes for the midday vermouth. In 2020 the owners opened a larger restaurant on Plaza Bib-Rambla, but the Hermosa bar is unchanged. Guía Repsol gave it a Solete and, in 2024, a Solete con Solera.
The short menu is mostly fried fish: boquerones, cazón, calamares, gambas en gabardina (battered prawns), fried cod, hake and tortitas de camarones (shrimp fritters), plus langostinos al pil-pil. Alongside come croquetas, berenjenas fritas con miel de caña (fried aubergine with cane honey), tomate aliñado and gazpacho. Drink Alhambra beer or vermouth; each brings a free tapa.
The Hermosa bar opens Tuesday to Saturday 13:00–16:00 and 20:00–23:30, Sunday 13:00–16:00; closed Monday. Bookings are only for the Bib-Rambla restaurant, so Hermosa is walk-in. A drink with tapa costs about €3–4 and raciones roughly €10–18 (2026); allow €20–30 per person. There are a few high tables inside and in the alley.
Arrive at opening for a table outside; queues build by 14:00 and 21:00. Tip: share the berenjenas with cane honey alongside the fish.
