Casa Pepe de la Judería

Restaurant and taberna in an old house in Córdoba's Jewish quarter, bought as a tavern in 1928, with a patio, rooftop terrace by the Mezquita and Michelin-listed Cordoban cooking.

About Casa Pepe de la Judería

In 1928 José Jiménez Aroca, a cook trained in Córdoba's hotels, paid 7,500 pesetas for the taberna El Triunfo on Calle Romero and ran it as Casa Pepe until his death in 1985. His rabo de toro, stuffed hake and fried fish drew visitors such as Angelo Roncalli, later Pope John XXIII, and he received the Medalla al Mérito Turístico in 1970. The house has the city's Taberna Histórica distinction and is listed in the 2026 Michelin Guide for regional cuisine.

The bar menu offers tapas and half portions of the classics: salmorejo with Iberian ham (tapa €6), Pepe's fried aubergines with cane honey (€6.50), mazamorra, croquetas of puchero (stew) and a flamenquín of pork loin and ham. In the dining rooms, try rabo de toro, almadraba bluefin tuna or Los Pedroches Iberian pork. Montilla-Moriles wines are poured at the old marble bar.

It is open daily for lunch 13:00-16:00 and dinner 19:30-23:00, until 23:30 on Friday and Saturday. Tapas cost €5-7, main dishes €21-36, and a full meal with wine about €45-60 per person (2026). Booking is advisable for the patio and the roof terrace; the menu is printed in Spanish, English and French. It is 80 m from the Mezquita.

The roof terrace is best on spring and autumn evenings, with the Mezquita bell tower lit up; in July and August book the patio or air-conditioned rooms instead. For a quicker meal, stand at the bar at 13:00 and order tapas before the tour groups arrive.
