Oleícola San Francisco
Family olive oil mill in Begíjar, 6 km from Baeza, built in 1927 and open to visitors since 2011, with its old press room, 1927 cellar, modern plant and Esencial Olive tastings.
About Oleícola San Francisco
The mill was built in 1927 on the edge of Begíjar, in the La Loma district near Baeza, and bought in 1989 by Manolo Rus and José Jiménez; brothers José and Manuel Jiménez run it today. It mills mostly Picual from local growers and its own estates, sold as Esencial Olive (early-harvest Noviembre, Frantoio, Arbequina, Changlot Real) and Cortijos de Andalucía under the IGP Aceite de Jaén. Tours began in 2011 and have drawn more than 70,000 visitors.
The visit opens with an introduction to Jaén's olive landscape and the grades of oil, then enters the old mill with its hydraulic presses, esparto capachos and 1927 cellar, with short films on 1950s methods. Next comes the modern plant, with its mills, malaxers and centrifuges, and a guided tasting of three Esencial Olive oils.
Mill tours run daily all year: Spanish at 11:00 (€14, ages 9–12 €7, under-9s free) and English at 12:30 (€16), about 1.5 hours. The three-hour grove and mill tour starts at 09:45 (€28 in Spanish, €30 in English). These are 2026 rates; book and pay online. The site is fully accessible with adapted toilets, and dogs wait outside. Begíjar is a 10-minute drive from Baeza.
Come between late October and January to see the mill working. Tapas, breakfasts and lunches in the mill can be added. Buy the early-harvest Noviembre or a 5-litre tin in the shop, and wear flat shoes for the grove.
