Monowa Butterfly Park
Monowa Butterfly Park, until 2025 the Mariposario de Benalmádena, is a 900 m² Thai-style tropical glasshouse beside the Benalmádena stupa with 1,800–2,000 free-flying butterflies.
About Monowa Butterfly Park
Monowa is the name taken in November 2025 by the Mariposario de Benalmádena, open for over a decade beside the Buddhist stupa above Arroyo de la Miel. It is a 900 m² heated, Thai-themed garden under glass, and its foundation funds butterfly conservation, including work on the Jamaican swallowtail and a study with the Andalusian Entomological Society.
Between 1,800 and 2,000 butterflies of more than 40 species fly freely among waterfalls and tropical plants. They arrive as chrysalides from sustainable farms in countries such as Costa Rica, Thailand and Kenya, and you can watch them emerge in the puparium. Birds, fish, turtles and stick insects share the garden, and children can follow games and meet the mascot.
Open 365 days from 10:00, closing at 18:00 in winter and 19:00 in summer and on spring weekends; last entry is 30 minutes before. 2026 tickets: general €13.50, children 3–12 and over-65s €11.50, under-3s free. Allow 45–90 minutes. The route is step-free for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Street parking is free, and bus 103 from Arroyo de la Miel station stops at Stupa Tibetana.
Go early, when butterflies are most active; they fly less on cloudy days. Inside it is 24–28 °C with 80% humidity, so wear light clothes and let camera lenses clear. Do not touch the butterflies, watch where you step, and keep food for the café outside.
