Restaurante Casas, Aracena

Family restaurant founded in 1947 by Manuel Casas Martínez beside Aracena's Gruta de las Maravillas, known for hand-carved Jabugo ham, Sierra mushrooms and game dishes.

About Restaurante Casas, Aracena

Manuel Casas Martínez opened the restaurant in 1947 for local people and the Portuguese visitors who crossed into the Sierra. Nearly 80 years later his son Manolo, known as Manino, still leads it. It won the Placa de Bronce for tourist merit in 1969 and the provincial Trayectoria Turística award in 2025. The dining rooms are full of copper plates, old farm tools and hanging hams.

Ham comes from Sánchez-Romero Carvajal in Jabugo and Joselito in Guijuelo, carved by hand, with caña de lomo, salchichón and morcón of Jabugo. Sierra dishes include perdiz (partridge), conejo a la cazadora (hunter's rabbit), cola de toro and the house San Jacobo. In autumn order the revuelto de gurumelos, scrambled eggs with the prized local wild mushroom, or boletus.

The restaurant opens daily for lunch from 12:00, with evening service in busy seasons; phone +34 959 128 044 to check. Expect €30–40 per person with wine (2025); a large ración of ibérico ham costs up to about €39. Book for weekends. It is 90 m from the cave entrance and about 1.5 hours by car from Seville.

Book for 14:00 after a morning visit to the cave, which runs timed tours. October and November bring chestnuts, mushrooms and game, and the Sierra is at its greenest. Ask for ham cut a cuchillo, by knife, and share a ración between two.
