Mesón El Lobito
Mesón opened in 1966 by the Domínguez family in a bodega over 200 years old in Moguer, home town of Juan Ramón Jiménez, known for Ibérico meats from its wood-fired grill.
About Mesón El Lobito
El Lobito opened in 1966, ten years after Moguer's poet Juan Ramón Jiménez won the Nobel Prize, when the Domínguez family set up a mesón in a wine bodega more than 200 years old on Calle Rábida. Three generations have run it. A renovation cleaned the smoke-blackened walls but kept the bodega hall, the farm tools on the walls and the open fire. There is a main hall, an Andalusian patio and a room for celebrations.
The centre of the kitchen is the large wood-fired brasa. Ibérico cuts such as pluma, presa and secreto, chorizo and churrasco are grilled over the embers, and the San Jacobo (ham and cheese in breadcrumbs) is a house fixture. Starters include papas aliñás, salpicón de marisco (seafood salad), Ibérico charcuterie and gambas de Huelva, the local white prawns, with Condado de Huelva wines.
Open Monday to Thursday 12:00–16:00, and Friday and Sunday 12:00–16:00 and 20:00–00:00 (2026 website; phone to check Saturdays). A grilled meal costs about €20–30 per person with wine. Book on +34 687 689 551, especially at weekends, when families fill the patio. Moguer is a 20-minute drive from Huelva.
Weekday lunches are quieter. Book a patio table on warm days and combine lunch with the Zenobia and Juan Ramón Jiménez house museum and the convent of Santa Clara in the town centre. Order the Ibérico pork medium to keep it juicy.
