About Playa de la Bota

Playa de la Bota is a long Atlantic beach in Punta Umbría, west of the town on the way to El Portil, on Huelva's Costa de la Luz. About 3.8 km long and 45 m wide, it is a broad, sandy strand backed by dunes and pine woods rather than buildings.

There is no promenade, and the pines and dunes behind the sand give it a wild feel, only a short drive from Punta Umbría. The Los Enebrales natural area, named after its junipers, lies along this same stretch of coast towards the town. The swell is usually moderate.

Documented facilities include toilets, showers, footbaths, sunbed and umbrella hire, food and drink and a lifeguard team in season. It is reached by car from the A-497 Huelva–Punta Umbría road, with an unsupervised car park of more than 100 spaces, and interurban buses serve the area.

The best months are June and September, when the Atlantic is warm and the car park has space; July and August are the busiest. Come in the late afternoon and evening, when the beach faces the lowering sun over the Atlantic and the pines give a cooler walk back to the car.

Nearby places to visit

Closest is Playa de los Enebrales (2 km), backed by the juniper woodland of the Enebrales natural area, and further east Playa de Punta Umbría (6 km) is the town's own beach, with more services and restaurants. Heading west, Golf Nuevo Portil (5 km) is the course near El Portil, and Playa El Rompido (9 km) lies at El Rompido in Cartaya, where a long sand spit runs along the mouth of the Río Piedras. Inland, Bellavista Golf Club (9 km) in Aljaraque is a third golf option. The coast road ties them together neatly for a day of beach and golf.
