Playa de Rompeculos

Playa de Rompeculos is a 3 km natural Atlantic beach east of Mazagón, below the pine-topped El Arenosillo sand cliff, reached by boardwalk and well known for naturism.

About Playa de Rompeculos

Playa de Rompeculos is a natural Atlantic beach east of Mazagón, on the stretch of Huelva coast that belongs to the Doñana Natural Area. It runs for about 3 km between the Playa del Parador and the Torre del Loro. Behind it rises El Arenosillo, a tall sand cliff topped by pine woods, which supplies the beach with fine golden sand.

There is no promenade and almost nothing built. The name comes from the gully that cuts down through the cliff to the shore, and that gully is also the way in. A barrier-controlled car park sits at kilometre 32.6 of the A-494, and from there a wooden boardwalk of roughly 650 metres follows the gully down to the beach.

Rompeculos is well known for naturism, which is common here. Facilities are minimal, with no lifeguards, beach bars or toilets, so bring water, food and shade. The Atlantic swell is usually moderate but can pick up, so take care with children.

The car park fills in July and August, so May, June and September are the best months. Arrive in the morning for a space and calmer conditions. Or come for the last hours of the day, when the cliff catches the evening light.

To the east, you reach Playa de Cuesta Maneli (8 km) along a 1.3 km boardwalk through the pines. It ends at the Asperillo cliffs, which are protected as a natural monument. For some history, the Martín Alonso Pinzón House Museum (18 km) in Palos de la Frontera remembers the captain of the Pinta. All of these beaches lie along the A-494 coast road.
