Ruta del Veleta

Family restaurant on the Sierra Nevada road at Cenes de la Vega, opened in 1976 by the Pedraza brothers; a Michelin-listed reference for Granada cooking under a ceiling of jugs.

About Ruta del Veleta

On 14 February 1976 the brothers Miguel and José Pedraza opened a humble mesón on the Sierra Nevada road at Cenes de la Vega; old photographs show a whitewashed roadside café in the snow. It grew into a Mudéjar-inspired building with several salons, and the main dining room's ceiling holds more than 3,000 pieces of Granada ceramic. Chef Marcos Pedraza leads the kitchen today, and the house marked 50 years in 2026. It is listed in the 2026 Michelin Guide.

The carta mixes Granada classics with modern plates: habas fritas with Trevélez ham and fried egg, salmorejo with Motril shrimp, morcilla from Güéjar Sierra, rabo de toro stewed in oloroso, roast suckling lamb and pig, and hake and turbot. There is Riofrío caviar, a large cellar and a tasting menu.

Lunch is served Tuesday to Sunday 13:00–15:30, and dinner Thursday to Saturday 20:30–23:00; it is closed on Mondays. Starters cost about €13–27 and mains €26–39; the tasting menu is €85, or €120 with five wines (2026). Expect €60–90 per person à la carte. Booking is recommended, by phone or online; it is 6 km from central Granada by car or taxi.

Sunday lunch is the family sitting; weekdays are quieter. In winter it is a stop on the way back from the ski slopes. Tip: ask to see the wine cellar after the meal.
