Picualia

Modern cooperative olive oil mill on the A-4 at Bailén, owned by about 1,000 farmer members, with daily tours in English and Spanish, Picual tastings and the Aureum restaurant on site.

About Picualia

Picualia is the brand and mill of a farmers' cooperative in Bailén, the town on the A-4 known for its 1808 battle and its brick and tile kilns. About 1,000 members bring their olives, mostly Picual, to a single modern plant beside the motorway, certified to the BRC and IFS food-safety standards. The oils are sold in premium, gourmet and family ranges, and the cooperative designed its visitor programme with the University of Jaén.

The tour starts in the reception yard, where conveyors carry the fruit from the hoppers to the washers, then enters the long milling hall with its rows of decanters and the steel storage cellar. A short walk in the grove beside the mill explains pruning and harvesting, and the visit ends with a guided tasting of three oils and the shop. Aureum, the restaurant in the complex, cooks with the cooperative's oils.

Tours run in English at 10:30 and in Spanish at 12:30 and take about 1.5 hours. Adult tickets on Picualia's booking partners cost from about €15 (2026), less for ages 9 to 12; check the rate on the official booking page. The site is wheelchair accessible with parking; leave the A-4 at exit 299 towards Madrid. Book Aureum separately.

November to January is milling time, and the cooperative joins the Rutas del Aceite programme each autumn. Buy the early-harvest Picual. Bailén is an easy stop between Madrid and Granada or Córdoba.
