About Sancti Petri Hills Golf

Sancti Petri Hills Golf is an 18-hole course in the Lomas de Sancti Petri area of Novo Sancti Petri, the resort strip behind the southern end of La Barrosa beach in Chiclana de la Frontera, on the Cádiz Costa de la Luz. Novo Sancti Petri has drawn golfers, especially from central Europe, since the 1980s; this course is a later addition, opened in 2006.

It was designed by Manuel Piñero, the Spanish player who represented Europe in the 1981 and 1985 Ryder Cups. At par 68 and about 4,767 metres over roughly 40 hectares, it is short by championship standards, but eight lakes, undulating fairways and placed bunkers put the emphasis on accuracy rather than length. Stone pines and native vegetation frame the holes.

It operates as a pay-and-play course, with a driving range, putting green, lessons, a pro shop and a clubhouse restaurant. Andalucía's official tourism site has also promoted it as a pet-friendly course.

Autumn, winter and spring are the main golf seasons here, with mild temperatures and firm conditions. In summer, book the first tee times before the heat and the afternoon wind off the Atlantic build, then head down to the beach.

Nearby places to visit

The nearest beach, Playa del Puerco (2 km), runs for 2 kilometres below the Loma del Puerco, scene of the 1811 Battle of Barrosa. To the north, Playa de Sancti Petri (4 km) faces the castle on its islet at the mouth of the Sancti Petri channel. Golfers can add Golf La Estancia (2 km), another course in Chiclana. Playa de la Barrosa (5 km) is the town's main beach, around 4 km of fine golden sand backed by a promenade. Inland among pines and olives, Club de Golf Campano (4 km) is an 18-hole course that began life as a nine-hole layout in 1985.
