About Real Club de Golf Vista Hermosa

Vista Hermosa, now styled the Real Club de Golf Vista Hermosa, is a members' club in the Vistahermosa residential area on the western side of El Puerto de Santa María, inside the Bay of Cádiz. Laid out by Progolf, it opened in 1975 and has nine holes.

The nine measure 2,803 metres (par 36) and are played twice for a full round, which comes to 5,606 metres from the yellow tees. Small greens and narrow fairways lined with pines, palms and olives reward accuracy over length, the greens are well guarded by sand, and the closing holes add more bunkers, water and out-of-bounds. The main difficulty, though, is the easterly Levante wind, which frequently blows hard across this part of the bay.

The club runs a busy competition calendar. Facilities include a driving range, putting green, buggy and club hire, tennis and padel courts, a gym, a bar and a restaurant. Green fees are available to visitors; contact the club in advance to book.

Spring and autumn are the best seasons, with mild temperatures. In summer play at first light, before the heat and the beach traffic build; in winter, a midday round makes the most of the warmest hours.

The club sits just behind El Puerto's northern beaches. Playa de la Muralla (800 m) is a small beach of about 400 m beneath the cliff and walls of the 16th-century Castillo de Santa Catalina. The sandy arc of Santa Catalina runs for nearly 3 km, and its beach-bar area, Playa de las Redes (2 km), sits by Calle Mar Adriático. Towards the mouth of the Guadalete, Playa de la Puntilla (1 km) is a bay beach protected from swell. All are easily reached by bike.
