About Alhaurín Golf Resort

Alhaurín Golf Resort is built around an 18-hole, par-72 course on the lower slopes of the Sierra de Mijas above Alhaurín el Grande, on the edge of the Guadalhorce valley and about 20 minutes inland from Mijas Costa. Designed by Severiano Ballesteros, it opened in 1993 and measures 6,221 metres.

Ballesteros worked with the hillside rather than against it. Fairways climb and fall with the contours of the land, and the high ground looks over the Sierra de Mijas to the Mediterranean. Pines, oaks, cypresses, orange trees and Mediterranean shrubs frame the holes.

He also designed a nine-hole par-3 course, good for beginners or a warm-up, and the practice facilities, with indoor and outdoor ranges, a putting green and an academy, are rated by the provincial tourist board among the best on the Costa del Sol. The clubhouse has two restaurants and two bars, and there is a four-star hotel with 38 rooms, a pool and tennis courts.

October to May is the best period, when the hills are green and temperatures suit a walking round. Inland summers are hotter than on the coast, so book the first tee times in July and August; on clear winter mornings, the views to the sea are at their sharpest.
